As you begin making Kid Kits, start by creating a series of Challenge Cards. They can be made quickly - type them up or just write them on index cards. Use your cards to describe many tasks. Be specific but open ended. Ask students to build towers, bridges, tunnels, robots, etc. Be very clear about what students can and cannot do. For example, can they use glue or tape? Will the work alone or with a partner? As students to combine materials, or design a plan and seek feedback from a peer. Keep the cards in a box and use them anytime: in the car, after homework, at bedtime, before dinner, etc. Add Challenge Cards through the school year. Have students create their own Challenge Cards, too!
